The $5 Bad Hair Day Saver

JP Yim

Having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad hair day? We found the ultimate cure at the Derek Lam show. Whether your hair is ultra-dry or just falling flat, a leather clip straight out of the ‘70s is the perfect way to hide your unruly mane behind an on-trend style.

Hair stylist Orlando Pita blow-dried hair with his fingers, then brushed it back into a low ponytail with an off-center part. Once clipped, the low ponytail was left tangled, a bit frizzy, and full, meaning you don’t have to heat style your strands in order to get them to behave. The ’70s low ponytail is supposed to be a little unkempt.

Pita custom-made his leather barrettes by spray painting a sharpened chopstick and piercing it through oval leather strips. Don’t feel like DIY-ing your own? Here’s a chic option for under $5!
