Best Of The Best 2014 Beauty Trends

by Stephanie Montes

As we close out 2014–the year of the horse, radiant orchid and the oh so good Mansur Gavriel bucket bag–we’re taking a trip down memory lane to recap the 14 best makeup, hair and nail trends of the year. From wet-looking locks to matte everything, some trends we’ve loved and some we’ll leave behind while others we can’t wait to take into 2015. Some things are just better the second time around.

Berry Much A Trend

From nails to lips, deep berry hues could be seen on every fashion girl this year–in almost every season. We don't foresee this trend going anywhere anytime soon.

Tangled Up In Blue

From cobalts to cool teals, blue eyeliner made a surprising splash but we're sure it'll quickly become a thing of the past.

Step Up To The Plait

Fancy braids are still going strong after getting more and more intricate over the years. Like it or not, we may not be saying goodbye to them in the New Year.

Cheap Trills

Temporary tattoos were all the rage this summer because of their metallic finishes and pretty patterns. We expect to be reintroduced to the poolside favorite again next summer.

Keep Them Sealed

A matte lip is the chicest addition we made to our makeup stash this year. This is one trend we refuse to ring in the New Year without.

Raise Some Brows

We've seen the brow trend evolve over the years from dark and defined to this year's thick and bushy look. Guess we'll save some time on plucking next year.

Pedal To The Metal

Metallic coppers, rose golds, silvers and everything in between could be found on lids, lips and nails in 2014.

Bare It All

The no-makeup look was everywhere this year. Appearing as if you were born with perfect skin will always be on trend.

In The Nude

From a bare face to nude nails, the minimal approach to primping made its way into our mani routine. Clean and polished is the way to be.

Orange You Glad

A bold orange lip has never looked so good. We'll be sad if we have to say goodbye to it in 2015.

Short And Shaggy

Nothing screams cool-girl hair more than a messy, short cut. We're sure we'll be seeing this again in the new year.

White Out

The white nail trend is seasonless and always looks chic. We're fully stocked to take the trend into next year.

Wet Hair, Don't Care

The slicked-back wet look made waves all year. We can't imagine summer 2015 without it.

Going Matte

A matte topcoat is a chic and easy way to update a basic manicure.
