Very few celebratory days can compete with an event like National Pizza Day, but Sleep Awareness Week might just take the number-one spot on our list. Established by the National Sleep Foundation, and officially taking place from March 10 to 16, Sleep Awareness Week is set to highlight the importance a good night’s sleep has on our health and wellbeing. If you’re looking for new additions to your sleep routine to help you unwind after a long day, consider Borghese’s just-launched Overnight Resurfacing Mask. The brand, which was founded by an Italian princess in 1957, specializes in bringing the spa experience to your home, and this lightweight leave-on mask uses non-abrasive exfoliants to dissolve surface-level dead skin cells while you snooze for a smoother, brighter complexion when you wake up.

Fast Facts:

  • Suitable for: all skin types, but especially those with congested, acne-prone, or generally dull skin
  • Key benefits: smoother skin, less noticeable pores, and a brighter, more even-looking complexion
  • Key ingredients: lactic, glycolic, and salicylic acids
  • Guidelines: apply a maximum of three times each week before going to bed

Rather than exfoliate with a mechanical scrub that rinses right off but can also lead to irritation and micro-tears in the skin, Borghese created this leave-on treatment that combines several forms of chemical exfoliants to work without any harsh scrubbing. To tackle skin concerns like fine lines, dullness, and unwanted hyperpigmentation, the Overnight Resurfacing Mask features a 6% concentration of the alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) lactic acid, glycolic acid, citric acid, and fruit acids. Then, to loosen debris deeper in the pores that can contribute to breakouts, there’s a 0.4% concentration of the beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) salicylic acid. And finally, to soothe and moisturize the skin, there’s grape seed oil, meadowfoam seed oil, and hyaluronic acid.

Using the mask is as simple as applying a thin layer to freshly cleansed skin (avoiding the eye area and lips), and heading to bed. The brand recommends incorporating the mask into your routine up to three nights a week depending on your individual needs, but you will need to slowly work your way up to more frequent use to avoid experiencing any irritation or dryness, especially if you have skin that’s on the sensitive side (in other words, start by using the mask only once a week at first, and then, after a few weeks, you can increase to twice-weekly use, if you wish). Finally, you really don’t want to skip the morning SPF when you’re using this mask, as AHAs can make your skin more sensitive to the sun.
