Hailey Bieber may not have invented the pearlescent manicure that has since been dubbed “glazed donut nails,” but there’s no denying that she started a trend — one that’s still going strong more than a year later. Perfect for casual and formal events alike (Bieber did first debut the dessert-inspired manicure by nail artist Zola Ganzorigt at the Met Gala, after all) glazed donut nails are also completely DIY-friendly.

While there are many ways to get glazed donut nails — in the salon, at home, with regular polish, with gels — Butter London’s latest launch, an iridescent polish called Sassy Lassie, makes it super easy (and cheap) to get a glazed donut-like effect using just one polish.

Butter London’s Sassy Lassie shade is a sheer pearlescent color that can be used on its own or as a top coat for creating that glazed donut look without any messy chrome powder. Though it’s not an actual gel polish (aka, it doesn’t require an LED lamp), the polish still creates a gel-like effect thanks to the brand’s patented Shock Resistant Technology that adds a high-shine finish that’s both chip- and fade-resistant for up to 10 days.

For those who are particular about what’s in their beauty products, you’ll be happy to know that the polish is vegan, cruelty-free, and free from 10 potentially harmful or irritating ingredients, including formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate, and toluene.

You can wear Sassy Lassie any way you like, but Butter London recommends that you first apply a base coat. Once your base coat dries, you can apply one or two coats of Sassy Lassie depending on how opaque you prefer your polish, but you can also layer a coat of Sassy Lassie over a brighter color, if you like. For best results, once your polish has dried, enhance its glossy finish and keep your color protected with a thin layer of Butter London’s Hardwear Shine UV Top Coat, or another top coat of your choice.
