Cool-Girl Cynthia Mittweg Shares Her Beauty Rules

by Stephanie Montes

Former fashion designer, website founder, model, mom and all-around cool girl Cynthia Mittweg has learned a few things about beauty over the years. No surprise there, given that she is the founder of online beauty and fashion destination Maison Mittweg, where she serves as creative director and model for the site’s editorial shoots, the star of which is often her cotton candy pink hair. “I’ve had pink hair for a total of 8 years of my life,” she says. “I feel most like myself with pink hair, and I always seem to go back to it after experimenting with other colors. It isn’t the easiest to maintain as I have to get it done every 5 weeks but it’s worth it.” Here, she lets us in on her get-gorgeous regimen and shares her go-to products.

Rule #1: Feed Your Body

“I’m a strong believer in, if you’re good to your body, it will be good to you. My beauty MO is to always nourish from the inside out.”

Rule #2: Put Your Skin First

“The one product I keep coming back to is the Stone Crop Face Masque from Eminence. I love that it’s natural— it really hydrates my face.”

Rule #3: Raid Your Kitchen Pantry

“There’s no better way to get glowing, nourished skin than to just use raw manuka honey. I apply it all over my face and let it sit for a little bit before washing it off with warm water.”

Rule #4: Switch It Up

“I love so many products, and I make sure to alternate them regularly because as you get older your skin gets acclimated to certain ones, which makes them less effective. I am currently using Clé de Peau concealer, La Bella Donna Compressed Mineral Foundation, YSL Volume Effext Faux Cils Shocking Mascara in black, Colbert M.D. Balance Purifying Cleanser and Moon Juice Beauty Dust.”

Rule #5: Care For Your Hair

“When it comes to my hair routine, I love Kevin Murphy's Young Again Wash & Rinse. I also use the Young Again Masque to perk up my tired tresses.”

Rule #6: Have A Scent (Or Three)

"I try to change up my fragrance pretty often. I have three that I love: Atkinsons Oud Save The King, The Different Company Pure Virgin and Regime des Fleurs Nitesurf."

Rule #7: Know When To Splurge

“I have sensitive skin so I have to be careful about what I put on my face. I tend to splurge more on the products I put on my face, whether it be foundations, concealers or skincare.”

Rule #8: Sometimes Simple Is Best

“I am not a fan of nail art–I prefer to get a solid-colored manicure instead. When it comes time to pick a color, I usually go for red because it’s classic and timeless.”

Rule #9: Have A Beauty Icon

“Anna Karina portrays a mysterious and yet classic, doll-like beauty. It’s obvious she had a bold sense of self and wasn’t afraid to stand out. I find that quality alluring.”

Rule #10: Don't Be Afraid To Try Something New

“It’s so important to keep an open mind when it comes to beauty in general. I experiment with a lot of brands, which recently led me to try Colbert M.D., and now I love his products.”
