by Stephanie Montes

Since not everyone has waist-length locks, braids have a way of making short-haired girls feel left out. Since style should be inclusive, we’re rounding up the best braid inspiration for every hair length. From edgy to ethereal, these celebrity-approved plaits are all the motivation you need to switch your look this season. The best part? You can do them all yourself. Here’s how.

For Short Hair

Create a grip on short hair by spritzing a texturizing spray from roots to tips. Create a deep side part and French braid from front to back. Repeat on the other side of the part. If plaits come undone, use bobby pins to hold them in place. Finish with a strong hold hairspray.

For Medium-Short Hair

Create a center part and use a 1.5 inch barrel to wave hair. Spritz with a salt spray and finger comb for a lived-in look. Create two french braids from front to the crown and pin to secure.

For Medium Hair

Separate a two-by-four-inch section on the back of the head and create a tight french braid and secure with an elastic at the base. Make a center part at the front of hair and loosely French braid the remaining hair and secure with another elastic.

For Medium-Long Hair

Tie hair into a sleek half-up ponytail, then secure the bottom half into another ponytail at the nape of the neck. Starting with the top section, braid hair to the base of the bottom ponytail, then join to to finish the braid. Need a visual? Watch our video here.

For Long Hair

Start by lightly curling hair with a two-inch barrel, then use a texturizing spray to achieve a lived-in look. Create a deep side part and braid hair into a fishtail then secure with an elastic. Pull shorter layers out of the braid to give it a messier final look.
