Every beauty junkie in the ’90s had scrunchies in every color, claw clips, a crimper and the Topsy Tail in their arsenal. The iconic Topsy Tail was responsible for upgrading even the most boring ponytails into a ubiquitous twist that quickly became the middle-school version of “The Rachel”.

You can imagine how delighted we were to see an updated and elegant version coming down the runway at Tommy Hilfiger’s Winter 2016 show. The best part about it? It’s easy to create at home with texture and loose styling, keeping it romantic instead of retro. As the classic commercial states it is incredibly easy to recreate, “If you can make a ponytail, you can make a Topsy Tail.” To get the look, part your hair in the middle and add texture with a salt spray. Make a loose, low—you guessed it—ponytail and secure with a clear elastic. Gently create a gap in the hair near the scalp at the nape of your neck and pull the ponytail through the hole (unless you feel compelled to purchase the tool itself). Loosen tendrils along your hairline and gently bend them with a curling iron to frame your face.
