5 Hacks For Perfect Beach Waves Every Time
If there’s one thing we love after a day in the sun and sand, it’s the salty, tousled waves we’re left with. Since not all of us have 24/7 beach access, we rounded up the best hacks that give you mermaid texture without having to trek to the shore. The best part? You don’t have to worry about a sunburn or a sandy bikini.
Ride The Wave
Braid It Before Bed
Since there's nothing better than waking up with perfect hair, taking a few extra minutes to style it before you go to bed will make all the difference in the morning. On wet hair, apply a texturizing mousse and create multiple French braids. The more braids you create, the more volume and waves you'll get.
Bust Out The Buns
On damp or dry hair, apply a sea salt spray from roots to tips and pin hair into four buns (two in the front and two in the back). With a blow-dryer, apply heat to each section to help the wave take form. Shake out the waves and apply a wax pomade for added texture. Need visuals? Watch our video here.
Use A Flat Iron
Flat irons aren't just for straightening hair—you can actually use them to get pretty beach waves too. Starting close to the roots, snake hair in a left to right motion, while clamping down with the flat iron. This video will help you master the motion ASAP.
Work The Wand
Trying to achieve perfect mermaid-worthy beach waves? Skip the curling iron and opt for a clamp-free wand. Wrap small sections of hair around the wand until you've curled it all, then spritz with a shine spray and finger-comb for soft, natural waves.
Slip On A Headband
If you like the idea of getting beach waves while you sleep, here's another option. Starting at the ends, roll hair around the headband until you reach the nape of your neck. Slide on the front of the headband to secure—your hair should look like a low updo. In the morning, take out your headband and shake out waves.
