The New Ponytail Every Fashion Girl Is Wearing

We know we’re not the only ones who’ve had to decide between the lesser of two evils: visibly dirty hair (don’t act like you’ve never been there) or a basic ponytail. When your choices are between bad and worse, it’s time to get creative. Luckily, at the Fenty Puma by Rihanna show yesterday, our favorite models strutted down the runway in neon bungee cord–wrapped ponytails, and we’ve already planned a trip to the hardware store. Backstage with the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer, Rihanna’s hairstylist Yusef Williams described the look as “athletic-cool, bad-girl graphic with a little bit of edge” and shared his tips for achieving the style. We’ve never wished for dirty hair before, but the next time we feel it getting a bit greasy, we’re reaching for that bright cord and maybe a distressed leather jacket.

Not Your One-Trick Pony

Step 1: Pull top section of hair into a half-up ponytail and secure with an elastic.

Step 2: Pull bottom section into a separate ponytail and secure with an elastic.

Step 3: Use a bright neon elastic cord to wrap the base and pull tightly to create a bubble effect down the ponytail. Join the lower pony to the top and continue wrapping. Tie a knot at the end.

Step 4: Add shine and tame flyaways with a strong-hold hairspray.
