"Although I'm a matte lip girl at heart, this summer I wanted to try more sheer and simple lips. This Tom Ford lipstick in 'Sweet Spot' is my favorite, thanks to its dusty rose shade which really complements my skin tone. It's also very moisturizing, so it's perfect for extremely warm temperatures."

"My favorite lipstick is Chanel Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour in Maggy. It’s a natural-but-enhanced berry shade that’s really creamy—but actually stays put. It’s a nice choice for day or night because it’s low-maintence, easy to reapply without a mirror, and it doesn’t freak men out like a neon purple matte liquid would. (Not that I care.)"

Stephanie Montes, Senior Beauty Editor at The Zoe Report

"It took me a long time to find the perfect nude and now that I've found it in Buxom's 'Sinful Cinnamon' lipstick, I wear it every single day. It has the perfect amount of brown in it so my lips don't ever look washed out and the finish is matte without being dry so I can apply it all day without feeling parched." "Call it the T. Swift Effect: A few years ago, I was on the hunt for the perfect red lipstick. I thought I would end up searching for hours, but by some beauty miracle, the first one I tried was also the best. Nars Matte Lipstick in Vesuvio changed my life — it sounds hyperbolic, but it's one hundred percent true! One swipe of this baby and I feel instantly polished. The color is neither too blue nor too orange, and the formula has never dried me out. I'm so reliant on it's sophisticated superpowers that I keep a tube at home and at my desk in case of any last minute emergencies."

“I don’t experiment too heavily with lipstick, as I routinely rely on the classics if I’m going to wear any at all. This Armani formula is my go-to to kick up my look for evening—an amazing red lip really can work wonders to ready you for a night out."

Hallie Gould, Senior Editor at Byrdie

"I've been through so many different lipstick loves—from dark purples to orange-reds to popsicle lip stains. But Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Mysterious Red ($26) is my ride or die. I'm a matte lip kind of girl and this formula is perfectly velvety but doesn't dry out during a long night out. It even fades evenly so reapplying isn't a struggle. If you're looking for a bright, true red with a little bit of mystery, this formula's for you."

Amy Lee, Associate Fashion Editor at The Zoe Report

"Every time I try to experiment with a bright, bold color I always revert back to this tried-and-true shade. Velvet Teddy is the best complimentary nude hue that is not too brown and not too pale. It feels so soft on the lips and makes them look fuller instantly. It also pairs well with any daytime or nighttime makeup look. It's basically perfect."

"I've been keeping my lip look minimal, but when i'm ready to amp things up this sheer-effect lipstick from Christian Louboutin has been my go-to. Sure it's pricey, but the high-shine effect has been worth every penny."
