Photo Evidence That Purple Eye Shadow Is Wearable

At first glance, it might seem as though the hero act in Suki Waterhouse’s most recent beauty look (spotted at Burberry Prorsum’s Spring 2016 menswear show) is her expert execution of the daytime smoky eye. But upon second look, it appears she’s also triumphed another challenging makeup feat—pulling off purple eye shadow.

A color that often intimidates on account of its bold shelf appeal, ditch any misconceptions about only rocking the look for an ’80s costume party, as Suki proves that it can be done in a modern and subdued manner.

Forgo eyeliner for a wash of purple shadow concentrated at the outer half of the upper lid. Punctuated by a small dose of the color just beneath the lower lash line, the effect perfectly captures the playful spirit of summer while not being so out there that you catch any questionable glances.

Finish the look by focusing on the eyes and keeping the rest of the face natural—swipe on a few coats of curling mascara, brush up your brows and add a dab of blush to the apples of the cheeks.
