Have you ever tried a skincare product and had to immediately tell all your friends all about it? Well, I have tried a whole skincare brand, and now it’s time to tell everybody all about The Ordinary by Deciem! Either you’re like me and you’ve heard of it and are obsessed already, or you’re about to be obsessed by the time you finish reading this article. The reason why The Ordinary by Deciem has quickly made an international name for itself is because it offers amazing effective clinical treatments at ridiculously affordable prices. Seriously, a 1 oz. bottle of its Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion is only $9.80… YES, you read that right, a retinoid serum at only $9.80!

Source: @sanyabeauty2I’m sure you are wondering how a skincare brand that has so many amazing clinical technologies offers products at such a low price. Well, I wanted to know too, so I reached out to the team at The Ordinary and spoke at length with Dakota Isaacs, Deciem’s Communications and Public Relations Manager of North America.Dakota started off by explaining the process by which Deciem came about and how The Ordinary was “made out of frustration” due to other skincare companies overcharging the public and Deciem wanting to make a major change in the skincare world.First, The Ordinary offers products that are produced, lab-tested, packaged and distributed from the same facility in Toronto, Canada, cutting a huge portion of the cost of spending when making a product. There is no outsourcing from other labs when it comes to creating a new product; products are manufactured by their in-house team of bio-chemists and materials-chemists in their own lab.Second, the packaging is very minimalistic, making it easy for clients to read exactly what ingredients are in the product they are getting. You will never find a product that is labeled with any vague, misleading or contradicting marketing. Third, the formulations that they carry are stripped back with only one or two active ingredients in each product. They are made without any additives such as unnecessary binding agents, fragrances or dyes. They avoid any controversial or harmful ingredients such as parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, formaldehyde and more. They also take a stand against animal testing and do not sell in mainland China for these purposes since animal testing is required for registration purposes. From start to finish, The Ordinary by Deciem has 100% control of their product, making it easy to create an effective skincare brand that is accessible to the public for so cheap. So, what are the must-have treatments from The Ordinary?

$5.90 Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% This treatment targets blemishes, congestion and oil production. Niacinamide is a Vitamin B3 that is known to reduce the appearance of skin blemishes and congestion like blackheads. Since it has a high 10% concentration, the zinc salt helps balance out any visible signs of sebum activity. Niacinamide is also known as an effective ingredient for brightening skin tone, which could help in the evening out of any hyperpigmentation on the skin. You can apply this serum to the entire face morning and evening before any creams. However, if you use topical Vitamin C, try applying at alternate times of the day, (ideally, Vitamin C at night and Niacinamide in the morning) because Niacinamide can affect the integrity of any pure-form Vitamin C products.

$9.80 Granactive Retinoid* 2% Emulsion The Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion is one of their most popular treatments and it is by far my most favorite everyday treatment I have tried from the brand. A retinoid will be best to start with when starting retinol treatments because it gives the same effect as a retinol, but without the risk of irritation and dryness due to how it is broken down molecularly. Retinoids help with preventing the signs of aging by speeding up the cell turnover process and leaving you with smoother, glowing skin. So, apply a bit of this bad boy at night time before any creams and be prepared to wake up to baby smooth skin. Just a warning though, using retinoids and retinols increases your risk of UVA/UVB damage, so make sure to use a high SPF and reapply your SPF throughout the day.

$17.80 Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F This is a high-strength oil-solubilized Vitamin C that can be used in higher concentrations and is one of the most stable derivatives of vitamin C. Combined with vitamin F, this treatment provides essential fatty acids that help hydrate and support healthy skin. This oil solution is perfect for any skin type that wants to address dullness, uneven texture, uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles.

$7.20 AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution This 10-minute exfoliating facial is literally the most amazing product ever. It works above and below the skin level to exfoliate, brighten and clear pores from any congestion to promote smoother, baby-soft skin. With an additive derivative of Tasmanian Pepperberry that helps reduce irritation, this treatment is great for people that may have sensitivities toward the use of acids. Use once a week in the evening after cleansing skin, leave on for ten minutes (five minutes if you have never used an acid peel before and then build up to ten minutes), and then rinse off. Apply a moisturizer afterwards and then bask in all the glory of having glowing, smooth skin.

$14.80 Buffet The Buffet serum is one of the most popular serums for everyday use for anti-aging because of the impressive amounts of peptides and other ingredients it has. Matrixyl 3000, Matrixyl Synthe’6, Syn-Ake, and Relistase are all peptide complexes that help reduce the look of fine lines, wrinkles, surface irregularities and improve the look of skin elasticity and firmness. It also has multiple hyaluronic acid complexes which help bind moisture to the skin and act as a delivery system to enhance skin’s exposure to the active peptides. Also, this serum contains a probiotic complex in a base of eleven skin-friendly amino acids that help aid in fighting against toxins and free radicals entering skin. This serum is great for any skin type and can be used in conjunction with other serums throughout your daily skincare routine.

$6.70 Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG If you suffer from dark circles underneath the eyes, then try this highly potent serum. Containing an extremely high 5% concentration of caffeine and highly purified EGCG from green tea leaves, this treatment can help reduce the look of puffiness and dark circles around the eye contour. Good for any skin type and can be used in the AM or PM.

While their full line is available on their website, you can now order from Sephora.com as well. This past year, Estee Lauder invested in Deciem, making it the first time ever for Estee Lauder to invest in a company instead of buying a company out. With an investment like that, Deciem will now be able to create, produce, and distribute even more product than they could have ever imagined and still have 100% control of the brand.I have been such a fan of this brand for over a year now and I am so excited for its growth and potential to reach even more skincare-loving people like yourselves. Now get to clicking, because you’re going to want to try some of these products before they sell out, (which they do fast). This was article was originally published on The Everygirl.
