Whether you’re known for being a night owl or you have to pull the occasional late night at the office, everyone struggles with the under-eye area at some point. Between puffiness, dark circles and a wicked combination of the two, correcting the problem is no easy feat. We’ve tried caffeine-infused beauty products to perk up our tired eyes, but some mornings can be harder than others. Finally, there is hope for those days when even your third cup of coffee won’t wake you up and your eye creams have ceased helping you fake it ’til you make it. A DIY home remedy (that also happens to be free) can be your saving grace.

For extreme cases, you can actually feed your sleepy peepers with strong iced coffee—topically, of course. Take note from Dr. Francesca Fusco, a dermatologist at Wexler Dermatology in New York City, who freezes iced-coffee squares and uses them to fight swelling around the eyes. Additionally, a massaging motion will promote circulation and drain excess fluid, which dramatically improves a tired-looking appearance. We don’t know about you, but we’re all about this.
