This New Line Has The Perfect Regimen For Your Specific Curl Type

by Bianca Lambert

Curating the perfect regimen for your curl type used to be a game of trial and error — but not anymore thanks to Kérastase, a brand that’s been a thought leader in the world of professional, luxury hair care for over 55 years now. Keeping those with different curl patterns in mind, the brand designed a covetable new collection called Curl Manifesto, comprised of seven products exclusively made for wavy, curly, very curly, and coily hair types.

The ultra-hydrating line is formulated with manuka honey and ceramides to address the common frustrations that often come along with caring for the aforementioned hair types — including dryness, frizz, and breakage. Impressively, the formulas have shown to provide up to 63% more hydration and a whopping 87% more strength, which in turn minimizes breakage and enhances moisture and shine. What’s more: The products can be mixed and matched based on your unique curl needs, so whether you have tousled waves or tight coils, you’ll be able to find a regimen that works for you.

With that said, keep reading to learn more about the science-backed, pro hairstylist-approved line and which curl-loving products you should pick up for your hair type on your next visit to Sephora. With Curl Manifesto, the best curls of your life are just a wash day away.

WAVY TO CURLY HAIR

If you have curly hair with loose waves to soft curls, then your hair type most likely falls into the 2A to 2C range. What does that mean for your hair care routine? Well, a few things. One, you'll need to start with Kérastase's Curl Manifesto Sulfate-Free Shampoo. Starting your curly hair routine with a sulfate-free shampoo will ensure you begin with a hydrating foundation that busts buildup without stripping the hair of its natural oils. Additionally, the unique formula helps protect the hair from damage while creating a clean canvas for your next step: conditioner.

The type of conditioner you use on your curls will vary depending on your hair type, and for two type hair, lightweight products are typically best. The Lightweight Conditioner hydrates each curl and provides all-day frizz-reducing definition. After conditioning, prime and define with the Curl Enhancing Leave-In Cream to seal in the moisture from your wash and condition. The last step is layering the Curl Defining Gel-Cream on wet hair to amplify the shape of your natural curl without the crunch. And on day two, when curls feel like they need a little moisture, give them a refresh with the Curl Refreshing & Restyling Spray formulated to reactivate and hydrate curls between washes.

VERY CURLY HAIR

Now, it's time to talk about very curly hair. This hair type ranges from 3A to 3C. Unlike two hair types, this curl pattern has a little more spring in its figurative step, which means the hair craves more moisture. Again, start with the Curl Manifesto Sulfate-Free Shampoo. However, your conditioning treatment will look a little different. Swap the lightweight conditioner for the rich Nourishing Hair Mask that is formulated with the two hydrating powerhouses ingredients infused throughout the entire Curl Manifesto line: manuka honey and ceramides.

Leave this treatment on for up to 30 minutes to help increase hair elasticity and replenish moisture. Next, apply the Leave-In Cream followed by the Curl Defining Gel-Cream. Layering these two products will help smooth and nourish the hair cuticle reducing unwanted humidity-induced frizz for up to 24 hours, revealing healthy, hydrated curls. Then, for added shine, drop a pump (or two) of the Nourishing Hair & Scalp Oil into your palms and gently smooth onto your curls. And don't forget to refresh your curls with the Curl Refreshing & Restyling Spray for added hydration and instant frizz control.

COILY

In all of its coily glory, four type hair can range from tight toothpick-sized curls to a more zigzag pattern. This means getting moisture and hydration to penetrate the hair cuticle will take a few extra steps—one of those being pre-pooing. Pre-pooing not only gives coily hair nutrients on the front end of your wash day routine, but it also helps prevent hygral fatigue that can cause tiny knots in the hair strands as the hair swells and unswells during the washing process.

Applying a few pumps of the Curl Manifesto Nourishing Scalp & Hair Oil to the length of your hair overnight or even an hour before shampooing helps create a hydrated canvas for washing. Like all of the curl types mentioned above, the Curl Manifesto Sulfate-Free Shampoo is also recommended for coily hair in addition to the Nourishing Hair Mask. However, adding heat to the hair mask via a hooded dryer or a heated cap for coiler hair textures will help all of the mask nutrients penetrate the hair cuticle.

After washing and conditioning, applying the Curl Enhancing Leave-In Cream, Curl Defining Gel-Cream, and Nourishing Hair & Scalp Oil to soaking wet hair will help with hydration and shrinkage. But, you'll want to apply them strategically using the LOC method (leave-in, oil, cream) or, in some cases, LCO (leave-in, cream, oil), whichever you prefer depending on how your hair responds best. In addition, because coily hair is prone to dryness, rehydrating the hair throughout the week with the Curl Refreshing & Restyling Spray will help keep your curls feeling and looking their best.
