Meryl Streep Should’ve Won An Oscar For This Amazing Reaction

Jimmy Kimmel touched on quite a few issues during his opening monologue at the 2017 Oscars, but perhaps none as memorable as his direct statement to one of Hollywood’s biggest and brightest stars, Meryl Streep. The actress became the focus of Jimmy’s speech when he honored her record-breaking 20th Oscar nomination, as best actress for Florence Foster Jenkins, and he had all the jokes ready.

“Of all the great actors here in Hollywood, one in particular has stood the test of time for her many uninspiring and overrated performances,” Jimmy said. “From her mediocre early work in The Deer Hunter and Out of Africa to her underwhelming performances in Kramer vs. Kramer and Sophie’s Choice, Meryl Streep has phoned it in for over 50 films.”

In the audience, Meryl responded by ducking behind her husband, Don Gummer, but Jimmy wasn’t finished. “Let’s give Meryl Streep a totally undeserved round of applause,” he added. Instead, the crowd gave her a well deserved standing ovation. (Cue us clapping from our couches.)
