The Making Of Rachel Zoe’s Custom CFDA Gown

Each June the industry elite descends upon New York for the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards in outfits worthy of the occasion. Models, designers, stylists and members convene to celebrate accomplishments and honor recipients like Ralph Lauren, Kim Kardashian and Naomi Campbell (see our red carpet round up here). Our founder—and CFDA member—attended in a custom Rachel Zoe Collection dress which she designed in collaboration with her LA-based team. Here's how it came to be!

Rachel feels most glamorous in a long-sleeved silhouette so this dress was conceived with that in mind, featuring a plunging back and puffed shoulders for added drama and a rear slit to make walking a breeze.

Statement-making shimmer is a stalwart of the Rachel Zoe Collection and this custom gown was no different. The choice was between a champagne, black or muted white sequin. The final choice was white as it felt the most fresh, plus it paired perfectly with a striking, crystal trim which was added to the gown by hand.

Rachel and hairstylist Jenn Bradford opted to keep her hair in loose waves as a soft counterpoint to her bold eye-makeup by artist Kale Teter. To complement the trim of her gown, Rachel selected statement earrings and a cocktail ring from David Webb.
