Rachel Zoe’s Favorite Cannes Moments

by The Zoe Report
VALERY HACHE

Arguably the most glamorous red carpet of the year, the Cannes Film Festival consistently delivers iconic moments in modern style. With the festival upon us once again, we sat down with our Editor-In-Chief to discuss some of her favorite looks over the years, and learned that one key theme rang true for the bunch: each dress perfectly suits the personality of the woman wearing it. Something to ponder if you’re a bride-to-be.

Cameron Diaz in Louis Vuitton, 2004

"Because it was a premiere for a children's movie, Cameron didn't want a big gown so she opted for this stunning tea-length instead. This is how she does fashion. Consummate cool."

Kate Moss in Lloyd Klein for Grès Paris, 1998

"One of my favorite looks in Kate Moss history. She arrived looking so elegant and minimal with just a simple strand of diamonds and a lip. Grace Kelly style in a Kate Moss way."

Diane Kruger in Giambattista Valli Couture, 2012

"She looked like a goddess wafting down the carpet in this pale mint chiffon. The hair and makeup was flawless and paired so perfectly with her dress. It's a lesson in effortless style."

Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior, 2013

"Everyone expects ball gowns and trains for Cannes, but instead she went for simple, Parisian style with minimal jewelry and a red lip. Impossibly chic."

Lou Doillon in Armani Privé, 2008

"This is the way cool wears couture. She manages to bring an edge to the tiara and gown combination. A very memorable moment."

Cara Delevingne in Burberry Prorsum, 2013

"This was really the moment when Cara Delevingne arrived. The quintessential example of how to make a lace gown look both sexy and cool. It also made everyone aware that Burberry makes fantastic eveningwear."

Nicole Kidman in Valentino Couture, 2013

"This is the ultimate fairytale couture gown done in a totally modern way. Every woman can relate to that dress because they want to wear something like it at some point in their lives. And Nicole just carries it beautifully."

Blake Lively in Gucci, 2014

"Everything about this look is what you should do at Cannes. I think America dreams to see movie stars look like this. It's hard to make a black and white dress look different and still classic. I love the cherry red lips, slight cat eye, hair pulled back and strands of diamonds - it's full on Grace Kelly. I can't get over it!"

Marion Cotillard in Maison Martin Margiela, 2014

"You would never see someone wearing this dress in Cannes and Marion just did it - and it's MAJ. It's entirely beaded and I just love that she wore it. I also love the unexpected black ankle bootie."

Natalie Portman in Givenchy, 2008

"When Natalie wore this sculptural optic-white Givenchy to the amfAR benefit at Cannes, she proved that a shorter hemline can be just as impactful as a floor-length gown."

Salma Hayek in Gucci, 2011

"Everything about Salma's look epitomizes red carpet glamour, from her dreamy champagne Gucci gown to her side-swept waves. She looks completely confident and in her element in the spotlight."
