A Day In The Life Of An Editor At NYFW

Amongst a frenzy of shows, meetings and parties—oh, plus the actual work that comes with the day job—being an editor at fashion week is a fast and furious ride. We tapped ELLE’s Accessories Director, Maria Dueñas Jacobs, to chronicle just a snippet of her NYFW schedule, hopping around locales all over the city in a matter of mere hours. Here, Maria shares a peek into what it’s like to be an editor during fashion week.

7:30AM: My daughter and I start our morning routine of breakfast in bed followed by lots of playing and getting dressed for the day. Today she has ballet class and she loves her outfit. She decides I need to eat some more food so she proceeds to cook me something special in her own mini kitchen.

9AM: I'm out the door and heading into the office to catch up on some emails and work before the shows start.

11AM: First show of the day is Jason Wu. Always love his tailored elegance!

12PM: Checking out the latest from Gabriela Hearst. Her collections keep getting better and better, and this season was my favorite so far. Here I am holding up a gorgeous short-sleeve I’m adding to my Spring '16 wish list.

1PM: Time for Rosie Assoulin—I LOVED this collection. The venue was so original, set in an emptied pool in the West Village.

2PM: Polo Ralph Lauren—this presentation was 100% Polo. Every detail of the venue, the food, models and (of course) the clothing and accessories were perfectly on-brand. Preppy and iconic just as you would expect!

3PM: A quick jaunt back to the office for a very late lunch and more catching up on work.

6:30PM: Givenchy time! Was so excited for this show and it did not disappoint. It was set on a pier outdoors with over 1,500 people watching. The looks were all black and white and incredibly intricate.

8PM: Finishing out the day at the Editorialist launch party. My dear friend Stefania Allen (middle) is one of the editors of the site and tonight they celebrated their Fall issue. I stopped by the party and then had a fun dinner with Kate Davidson Hudson (left) and Stefy!
