Although admittedly our favorite aspect of viewing the Academy Awards is lusting after all the glamorous looks going down the red carpet, the show itself never fails to produce a handful of memorable moments — and this year’s Oscars didn’t disappoint. In fact, we laughed, we teared up and we cheered loudly from our spot on the couch. From the presenters and winners that made history to the quotes that had us cracking up, there were plenty of high points during this year’s ceremony, and we’re listing our favorite ones below.
Tiffany Haddish And Maya Rudolph Kicked Off Their Heels
Can these two host something ASAP? Tiffany and Maya were literally all of us when they presented sans-heels and commiserated about their aching feet. "Girl, my pinkie toe fell off," Rudolph deadpanned. We die.
The First Transgender Presenter
Chilean actress Daniela Vega became the first openly transgender person to present at the Oscars. Her film, A Fantastic Woman, also took home an award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Frances McDormand's Empowering Speech
This year's Best Actress winner has been making epic speeches this entire awards season so we knew to expect something special, which she did by asking every female nominee in the audience to stand to offer some "perspective" on the multitude of talented women in Hollywood. Watch the whole inspirational moment here.
Stars Surprising Movie Goers
Host Jimmy Kimmel enlisted the help of A-listers including Lupita Nyong'o, Margo Robbie, Armie Hammer and Gal Gadot to crash a nearby screening of A Wrinkle in Time, surprising the movie goers with some snacks and serious star power.
Kobe Bryant's Big Win
Bryant made history as the first athlete ever to win an Oscar, which he received for the animated short, Dear Basketball.
Rita Moreno's 1962 Oscar Dress
The iconic actress presented in the exact black and gold gown she wore to the Oscars in 1962, the year she won for her performance in West Side Story.
Oscar Issac And BB-8
To the Twitterverse, this year's ceremony was all about Oscar Issac, who lovingly tickled his Star Wars costar BB-8 and shouted "Viva Latin America!" after presenting an award to Coco. He is, after all, known as "the internet's boyfriend," so naturally this had the whole web freaking out.
Allison Janney's Hilarious Opener
We already loved the Best Supporting Actress winner, but her hilarious speech took our adoration to new levels. "I did it all by myself," she joked before going on to thank her fellow I, Tonya cast and crew, family and colleagues.
