Nicole Kidman Just Spilled All On Big Little Lies Season 2

We’re so obsessed with Big Little Lies that we’ve been hanging on every word, however vague, regarding a potential second season of the show. A few weeks ago, the book’s author told the press she had been asked to begin brainstorming new storylines for the series, which made a new season sound pretty certain, at least in our overly eager minds. This week at Cannes, Nicole Kidman echoed our excitement over the proposed continuation of the show, telling Variety, “It would be so lovely if we could do it,” and that her participation in a second season would hinge on whether or not “there is a way to form these women’s lives further.” She also told the publication that she “obviously” understands the “complicated relationship” between the character she plays and her (spoiler alert: now deceased) husband—which may or may not allude to her own experiences with abuse—and said people have been emailing her and otherwise reaching out, a phenomenon she’s not used to. We’re not surprised, as Big Little Lies clearly touched a collective female-empowerment nerve, which makes it as important as it is entertaining.

Nicole’s co-stars have also done a bit of blabbing about the proposed second season. Over the weekend, Laura Dern told Us Weekly that there’s been talk around continuing the show and said it’d “be a blast” because she loves her character, Renata, so much. Meanwhile, Reese Witherspoon was a bit more overt in her teasing of a second season, posting an Instagram featuring her co-stars with the caption “working on some new lies.” Hopefully, this will all be official soon, and we can only imagine the paychecks these boss babes will command for their participation. We’ll keep you posted as this story develops, as we probably all need some non-panic-inducing news right now.
