The Duchess of Cambridge has been known to don royal heirlooms, often those that were once worn by Princess Diana, from a three-string pearl bracelet to the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara, but it turns out she has also been wearing an even more symbolic piece. Shortly after Prince George’s birth, she received from her sister a Merci Maman necklace made with a flat golden disc inscribed with the name “George Alexander Louis,” a gold heart engraved with a “W” for William and a tiny charm shaped like a boy. Princess Diana herself wore a strikingly similar pendant, given to her by Prince Charles, which had the name “William” written on it. (The boutique has also confirmed the true meaning behind the personalized treasure.) It might be a small tribute, but it proves the royal remains quite literally close to Kate’s heart.
