It’s no secret we’re handbag obsessed, and New York Fashion Week ushered in a surplus of styles we’re ogling for spring.
One of the first points to note: Straw bags are not going anywhere, and we’re thrilled. Brock Collection, Ulla Johnson and Victoria Beckham all showed woven shapes from handhelds to carryalls—Ulla even layered both for a bag-on-bag situation.
Second, belt bags are major. They’ve been cropping up over the past few seasons but for spring, hands-free is the way forward, in every aesthetic from sleek to sporty by the likes of Zimmermann, Creatures of the Wind and Public School.
Our go-to cult-bag designers—Coach, Michael Kors, Alexander Wang, 3.1 Phillip Lim—all have fresh silhouettes on offer in laid-back leather or with glitzy embellishments. Brands we rely on for all-out glamour—Tom Ford, Delpozo, Oscar de la Renta—are giving us shimmery totes and bedecked clutches fit for a red carpet or an evening occasion. And emerging labels like Simon Miller, Gabriela Hearst and Solace London turned out killer styles for 2018.
Moral of the story? The first leg of Fashion Month over-delivered, and we can’t wait to see what London, Milan and Paris will bring. Peruse our favorites from the Big Apple and start saving up for your bag splurge of the season.
