Why We Can’t Wait For Couture Week

In anticipation of the Paris Haute Couture Fashion Shows starting Sunday, January 25, we’ve rounded up our favorite showstoppers from last season. Although a head-to-toe pearl embellished gown isn’t your average outfit for a Tuesday at the office, we always draw serious inspiration from these runway masterpieces. The theatrical visions of Karl Lagerfeld, Giorgio Armani and Giambattista Valli, to name only a few, are where glamour intersects with art and endless imagination. Haute couture may not be accessible to everyone, but it certainly is what fashion dreams are made of.

Chanel

Coco would be proud to see her signature tweed suiting reinvented as an evening gown. Mr. Lagerfeld, you are truly a genius.

Giambattista Valli

This look effortlessly balances the femininity of a floral-embellished ruffle jacket, the androgyne of relaxed trousers and the futuristic effect of metallic heels. Who says you can't have it all?

Atelier Versace

Leave it to Donatella Versace to create a ball gown suited for an edgy rock star. The black leather evening gloves, up-to-there slit and daring see-through bodice are a winning combo.

Armani Privé

Imagine if you were caught in an elegant rain shower of delicate red flower petals—Giorgio Armani makes dreams a reality in this theatrical piece of couture.

Christian Dior

We wonder how many hours Christian Dior's famous atelier of artisans spent making this work of art? We're guessing hundreds.

Valentino

Talk about a split personality! We love how the the prim and proper shape of this dress juxtaposes the evocative sheer fabric.

Elie Saab

This Elie Saab masterpiece is like a grown-up princess dress with the plethora of pearls seemingly floating on paper-thin tulle.
