Memorial Day Dressing: Beaches, BBQ’s, Blankets and Boats

No matter where you’re celebrating Memorial Day, the official start of summer deserves some sartorial fanfare. With this in mind, we’ve culled the best outfits for barbecues, beach parties, boat trips and picnics in the park. If you have trouble choosing, just think of July 4th, and Labor Day… As if you needed any convincing.

Since you'll be outside, make sure you're cute outfit is comfortable and functional. That means no stilettos at a barbeque or bandeau mini-dresses on a boat. Read on for our tips.

Beach

If you're lucky enough to be heading to the beach this weekend stock up on light pieces in saturated hues like yellow, red and green. We love this printed bikini and it looks great with this turquoise towel and embroidered blouse. The colorful woven tote and sandals will do double-duty when you're travelling.

BBQ

For backyard get togethers we adore this feather-light, tiered dress but suggest topping it with a denim jacket to stave off the evening chill. Add embellished sandals and a playful, mini bag.

Boat

If you'll be spending time on a boat this weekend, a jumpsuit is the perfect companion. When a gust of wind whips everyone else's skirts over their heads, you'll be sitting pretty. This bright coral version from Zara pairs brilliantly with an oversized straw hat and striped espadrilles. Finish with starfish earrings and a thorough coat of sunscreen.

Park

For a day in the park, be prepared to bike around and sit on a picnic blanket. A pair of white denim shorts and a silk tank are relaxed yet polished. Finish with wedge sandals, studded sunglasses, and a bright yellow crocheted backpack.
