How To Style Sweatpants

We never thought our love for sweatpants (or general laziness) would be chic. Thanks to the Fall 2014 runways of heavy-hitters like Isabel Marant and Michael Kors, sweatpants—once associated with giving up—are now a legit fashion piece. Since hitting the streets in slippers does not a style star make, we give you two realistic ways to wear the trend out and about. (Who knew we were so stylishly dressed for our Homeland marathons?)

For Lunch and Errands

Switch out your skinny jeans for this luxe pair of cashmere sweatpants. Team with a silk shirt and pointed-toe oxfords for a polished off-duty look. Add the finishing touches of a cozy cream scarf, sleek bag and pale sunglasses.

For Dinner and Drinks

If there has ever been a time to listen to us, this is it: You can wear sweatpants for a night out. You read correctly. Just choose a rich hue (we went with caramel) and top with a fabulous jacket. Tie the look together with a bold, wine-colored lip and a sleek suede pump.
