Tommy Hilfiger’s Latest Campaign Wants You To Share Your Voice

What would you say if the world was listening?

by Erin Cunningham

Every person has the ability to incite change — no matter how small they think their influence might be. This fall, Tommy Hilfiger is taking that messaging mainstream. The American brand’s latest campaign, Pass the Mic, is calling on influential names like world-renowned DJ Cassidy, award-winning actress Yara Shahidi, and multiplatinum rapper Jack Harlow to ask fans inspiring questions via social media, including What would you say if the world was listening? and What inspires you to make a difference? Encouraging their followers to respond in real-time, Tommy Hilfiger created a bold and progressive chain reaction of positivity by having people engage with the brand and join in on the conversation.

“Every voice has the power to light up the world,” the designer said in a press release. “We are quite literally ‘Passing the Mic,’ first to the select voices and then to our global audiences, in order to drive meaningful and long-lasting change.” In the campaign, for example, actor Anthony Ramos shares his vision for a brighter future: “We change the world by redesigning who we are, but never forgetting where we came from,” he said.

In addition to the celebrity-led social media splash, TZR Executive Editor Angela Melero and Senior Fashion Editor Aemilia Madden created an IGTV where they discussed using their platforms to make a real difference. Centered around the idea of speaking up on topics that are important to you, Melero and Madden touched on mental health, sustainability, and female empowerment. Throughout the conversation, the editors shed light on the need for self-care and advocating for women of color, and the importance of (and the challenges that come with) leading a more sustainable lifestyle. By telling their personal stories, as well as accounts of activists who are already inciting change, the IGTV shows how easy it is to get involved with Tommy Hilfiger’s Pass the Mic initiative in their own communities.
