Designer Alessandro Michele took the helm at Gucci a year ago, and in a short time he’s captured the attention of editors, street-style stars and It girls alike. Today, he unveiled the Fall 2016 men’s collection in Milan (which included a handful of women’s looks) and we were stopped dead in our tracks by the gorgeous appliqués, reinvented iconic Gucci bags and embroidered sneakers, to name a few highlights. Here, 5 noteworthy trends to get on board with stat.
The Trends We Loved At Gucci
1. Sequined Appliqués
Scores of runway looks were adorned with shimmering appliqués—enriching basic bombers, office tweeds and denim jackets.
2. Fur-Lined Loafers
If you thought you'd seen the last of fur-lined loafers, think again! The staple is back, but this time the casual slides come in festive damask and houndstooth prints.
3. '70s Luggage–Style Handbags
While mini luggage isn't workable for an actual trip, this throwback silhouette makes for an excellent day bag.
4. Tassel Scarves
Tassels on everything—necklaces, bracelets, earrings, you name it!—have been going strong for several seasons. To DIY this version, find supplies at your local fabric store (look in the curtain department!).
5. Embroidered Sneakers
If you're usually resistant to fashion sneakers, Gucci's intricately embroidered luxe kicks have the power to persuade. Wear with wide-leg trousers (bonus if they have an unfinished hem like this look) and you're good to go.
