Bronx-born Joy Bryant started her career as a model, working with Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Gap and Victoria’s Secret, to name only a few. For the last several years, the outdoors enthusiast has become best known for her role on NBC’s hit drama Parenthood. Here, the fit and fabulous stunner shares the 10 beauty rules she lives by. (Teaser: She’s all about functional products and fuss-free rituals that make you look as good as you feel.) Our kind of girl.
Rule #3: Get Creative
"My favorite thing to DIY is homemade moisturizer. I mix a drop of rose oil, tea-tree oil, and sweet almond oil with aloe-vera gel and rub it on my skin. It's moisturizing and smells amazing."
Rule #4: Know What Works For You
"There are 5 products you will always find in my medicine cabinet: Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel, Epicuren Volcanic Clay Mask, Epicuren Apricot Scrub, Epicuren Cleansing Gel, and Skinceuticals Blemish + Age Defense Serum."
Rule #5: See The Beauty In Everything
"Beauty trends change constantly, but I’m so over Eurocentric beauty standards. I love seeing beauty in all shapes and sizes, colors and hues."
Rule #6: Choose Products Wisely
"When it comes to my hair, I love Amoy Couture Hair Leave-In Conditioner and Jane Carter Solution Scalp Renew. You can't beat a leave-in treatment that works while you're on the go."
Rule #7: Switch It up
"I don't rely too much on heavy perfumes. I switch between Leilani Bishop Fragrance in Pikake and a few of my favorite scented oils. I love Lierac Huile Sensorielle and Lenor Greyl Huile De Magnolia."
Rule #8: Know When To Splurge And When To Save
"I splurge on the Sirona Cleanse and Flush–you can never go wrong with delicious vegan foods and fresh juices delivered to your door for five days (or longer). As for saving, coconut oil goes a long way. I use it for cooking, but it’s also a great hair and body moisturizer."
Rule #9: Have Clear Inspiration
"My beauty icons are Sade and Lisa Bonet. End of story."
