5 Last-Minute Getaways You Can Still Take This Weekend
Sometimes our lives are so busy with work and other assorted nonsense that we forget to make plans for the few moments we here in America are officially allowed to relax, like the “long” 4th of July weekend ahead. If you failed to organize a getaway but are dying to get out of town this holiday, fret not as we’re full of last-minute ideas. Here, inspiration for five trips you can take from every part of this great (or formerly great, depending on your politics) nation.
Los Angeles --> Palm Springs
It'll definitely be toasty in the desert this weekend, but that's what pools are for! Here, the trendiest of the trendy in this palm-tree-lined paradise for your last-minute perusal.
Do: Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, lie by the pool (it's going to be 105+ degrees!)
New York City --> Woodstock
This town is still the hippie haven of our dreams. If you're not feeling the Hamptons, Montauk or other such scenes, this is a happy alternative.
Chicago --> Lake Geneva
Everyone who's anyone in Chicago spends time at Lake Geneva in Wisconsin and for good reason—beat the summer heat with water activities, great food and more.
San Francisco --> Napa Valley
Wine is kind of everything, no? Here, you can drink it all day, every day without judgment.
Eat/Drink: The Fremont Diner, Boon Fly Cafe, Morimoto Napa, Oxbow Public Market, Ad Hoc, The Restaurant at Meadowood (try the snack program for a budget-friendly experience) and, of course, French Laundry
Do: Taste wine!
Austin --> Marfa
If you watched I Love Dick, you're likely as obsessed with Marfa's magic as we are. Brave the drive in hot, hot heat to be rewarded with the coolest trip on Instagram.
Stay: Thunderbird Marfa
