“While the launch of my spring collection in stores is super-exciting (the shoes alone, are amazing), I can’t wait for you to see my fall collection! My team and I have been working on it for months. Take a peek at what went into the design process below (hint: it’s all about the ’60s) and then check out the complete look book and be sure to shop the collection when it hits stores in August!”
The Making Of Rachel Zoe’s Fall 2014 Collection
Behind The Scenes
“This season is really about a Parisian woman in the 1960s – her sensibility, her lifestyle and her confidence. I wanted to create a collection that embodied French bohemia with mod elements – tailored jackets, short shifts, houndstooth prints and textured tweeds – cool wearable pieces that women want right now.”
"One of the beginning stages of the design process is the sketch phase during which we create storyboards with lots of imagery – everything from colors and fabrics to landscapes and silhouettes, all for inspiration. During this phase we develop the overall mood of the collection, and the way it’s meant to be worn from an editorial perspective.”
“Rich textures and materials are just as important to a garment as the silhouette itself. This season included a beautiful assortment of mohair, velvet sequins, distressed tweeds, suede and leather – effortless luxury."
"Obviously, I am obsessed with shoes and this fall's collection is one of my favorite seasons to date. There’s something for every woman and occasion. With snakeskin and leather, these two-tone Gael ankle boots are one of my favorite styles - perfect with skinny jeans, short shifts, or peg leg trousers."
"I love dramatic jewelry, whether it’s a statement necklace, cocktail ring or matching “sister” cuffs. This season was all about modernist, '60s shapes with unique details throughout, like gold whipstiching, collar necklaces and crystal pave, adding a hint of glamour to any ensemble."
"I am super-involved in every aspect of my collection including fitting and styling the models before and during a runway show, presentation or look book shoot. Putting the final touch on a look before sending it down the runway or onto set is an incredibly rewarding and exciting part of the process."
"This season I really wanted a model who embodied the 1960s. Someone with a natural mod essence, a doey-eyed, Twiggy-esque quality -- and Jemma was just that! Of course, hair and makeup are essential in achieving the overall look. This time around we opted for a retro low ponytail with a bit of lift at the crown, a fresh face and light cat-eye."
The Look Book
"We shoot a look book in order to show editors and buyers the complete collection, styled head-to-toe. I love seeing what started as inspiration images, sketches and fabric swatches come together in this book and then finally, on the retail floor."
