The hyper shine makeup look is where your beautiful skin gets a level-up on its glow. To bring those looks off your screens and onto your face, we had three of our beauty editors put together their own distinct takes on the trend. The best part? They’re all totally easy to recreate with just a handful of e.l.f. Cosmetics’ Halo Glow collection, all of which are under $15 (most even under $10!). Choose one to play up your eyes, complexion, or cheekbones, but don’t shy away from doing all three for an all over lit-from-within glow. If your skin is craving some luster, read on to learn all the sparkling essentials our editors love to nail the hyper shine look.
A Dewy, Sun-Kissed Sheen
Irma Elezovic, Branded Beauty Director
Inspired by glass skin, there’s no doubt you’ll be raking in the compliments with our resident beauty director, Irma Elezovic's look. For the base, start with the lightly-tinted Halo Glow Liquid Filter in shade 2 (which acts like a true liquid filter on the skin). Apply it using the doe-foot applicator directly on to skin, and blend out with a makeup sponge. Though there’s a serious emphasis on complexion, don’t be afraid to swipe it along your neck and collarbones for an all-over glow. Paired perfectly with that sleeveless top in your closet, the makeup-skin care hybrid comes in 12 shades, all of which are infused with sunflower seed oil and flower extracts to nourish skin while making it shine.
For the overall striking effect this look has, Elezovic donned her signature dramatic winged liner using the H2O Proof Eyeliner Pen to contrast with the naturally plump and healthy glow on the skin. The Halo Glow Highlight Beauty Wand in Champagne Campaign is the dazzling cherry on top to up the ante on this eye-catching look. “I like to dab a little of the Highlight Beauty Wand onto the back of my hand, and then from there, tap it on strategically on my cheek and brow bones, placing it exactly where I know it’ll catch the light,” Elezovic says.
Sculpted Blush
Shyema Azam, Associate Branded Beauty Director
When you come across blush-forward looks on your social media feed, you’re likely finding subtle “pinched cheek” makeup. While we love that classic look, Shyema Azam, Associate Branded Beauty Director, distinguishes herself with this striking, shimmery look. To really sculpt out the look, she first dotted on and blended out the Halo Glow Contour Beauty Wand in Medium/Tan in the hollows of her cheeks. “The way this contour blends out is insane and adds a natural looking shadow to keep the focus on the cheekbones,” Azam says.
To punch it up for this blush look, brush on the Primer Infused Matte Blush Powder in Always Vibrant as a base using the Putty Blush Brush. It’s only the teaser to the main event: the Halo Glow Blush Beauty Wand in Berry Radiant. Tap it on the apples of your cheeks up toward the outer ends of your brows for sky-high cheekbones. “The Halo Glow Blush truly has the prettiest, pigmented sheen on its own, but layered like this, you can really have a statement moment,” Azam says.
Glistening Eyes
Jordan Murray, Associate Beauty Editor
You’re welcome, minimalists — this look’s for you, and it’s nearly impossible to mess up. Associate Beauty Editor, Jordan Murray, started this glowing eye-focused look by heaping a mix of the Halo Glow Blush Beauty Wand in Magic Hour on the rims of her lid, then adding the Highlight Beauty Wand in Liquid Gold on her brow and lids. From there, she patted down the Halo Glow Setting Powder in Medium her T-zone area using a powder puff to keep the focus on her eyes. The lightweight powder comes in five shades that all minimize excessive shine while still giving skin an airbrushed finish.
She didn’t shy away from her version of the hyper shine look: To finish, she swiped on the juicy, lightly tinted Glow Reviver Tinted Lip Oil in Rose Envy. The end result? A low-maintenance, flirty look that’ll be done in a few minutes flat. “I feel like this look is so easy to make your own,” Murray says. “The Highlight and Blush Beauty Wands add a voltage of shine to whatever feature you want to play up, even layered over your eyeshadow.”
