Meghan Markle’s Unconventional Bridal Look Is Pure Perfection—Here’s How To Get It

by Angela Melero

Since the start of her courtship with Prince Harry, Meghan Markle has made headlines for her rebellious fashion and beauty choices that often defied traditional royal standards. From her modern wardrobe to her red highlights, the actress-turned-duchess has played by her own sartorial rules, and it seems her wedding day was no exception. While Meghan went the elegantly simplistic British route with her stunning gown (courtesy of Claire Waight Keller for Givenchy), tiara and au naturel makeup, her less-than-secure hairstyle was anything but conventional—and social feeds are all abuzz.

Below, we give you a play-by-play of Meghan’s complete beauty look, which we predict will be replicated a hundred times over this wedding season.

A Bridal Masterpiece

For her mane look (get it?), Meghan went for the familiar: her go-to low chignon. Instead of slicking it back and securing it with gallons of hairspray, the duchess kept it light and loose and even allowed a few stray strands to fly free. While this may seem like NBD, the social channels went nuts with commentary both commending and criticizing the bride on her casual (and very unroyal) hairstyle. The crowning glory, however, was Meghan's stunning tiara, which was her "something borrowed" from Queen Elizabeth herself. The headpiece included a five-meter veil, that gave us all the Princess Diana feels. It doesn't get much more fabulous than that (and we only use that word when we really mean it). If you ask us, the look feels fresh and romantic, which also seems to be the theme of this whole affair.

If you want to try the look for yourself, good news: It's super easy and takes under five minutes. Simply part your hair down the middle and sweep it into a low ponytail at the base of the head. Twist the pony into a bun and secure with a couple of bobby pins. For a messier look, tug at the bun to loosen it up and pull some front strands loose to frame the face. Spritz the style lightly with hairspray and you're ready to roll. (Sorry, the tiara and veil are not as accessible.)

We love that Meghan went the barely there route with her wedding makeup. Save from some soft smoky shadow and baby-pink lips, there's hardly a trace of anything on her face, which allowed her natural radiance—and freckles!—to shine through.

This au naturel vibe is so versatile and can take you from the office to your next formal fête easily. All you need is a lightweight illuminating foundation or tinted moisturizer, a brown or bronze smoky eye (try this easy-to-follow tutorial), peach- or rose-colored cream blush on the apples of the cheeks, natural-looking brows and a soft pink glossy lip. If you seek a bit more glam and/or coverage, try some concealer under the eyes, highlighter along the cheekbones and some setting powder to secure your foundation.
