French Girls Swear By This Iconic Hair Oil — & It's On Sale Right Now
Stronger, silkier hair? Right this way.
Hair oiling may be having a major moment, but it’s long been a staple in French beauty routines (though the beauty practice initially originated in India). And given its many benefits, it’s really no surprise. Not only can adding a few drops of oil to your hair care routine help restore moisture and boost shine, but hair oiling is also thought to help support a healthy scalp (which by extension, promotes healthier hair). One of the most luxurious (and iconic) hair oils is Leonor Greyl’s L’Huile, a tried-and-true hair treatment that’s been beloved by French girls since it launched in 1970. The beauty award-winning brand has been used by celebrities like Cate Blanchett and Emma Stone, and while the L’Huile De Leonor Greyl is most prevalent in French pharmacies, you can buy it on Amazon for 20% off when you use the code ‘20HAIROIL’ at checkout.

At its core, the L’Huile De Leonor Greyl is a pre-shampoo treatment comprising multiple fatty acid-rich oils that work to nourish and moisturize dry hair. Chief among them, you’ll find jojoba oil and sunflower seed oil, which both contain nutrients that give the oils anti-inflammatory properties. Additionally, coconut oil helps to combat frizz and increase shine, while sesame seed oil boasts antibacterial and antifungal properties that can help to calm scalp conditions like dandruff. Each of the oils in the formula also contains antioxidant properties, which makes the hair oil an effective treatment for protecting your hair before you head to the beach or take a dip in the pool (or ocean).
Because of its multiple benefits, you can use the hair oil several different ways. If you want to follow the usual hair oiling route, massage a few drops of the oil through the lengths of your hair and onto your scalp and let it sit anywhere between 10 minutes to overnight before shampooing it out. Finer hair types will only want to do this treatment about once every other week or once weekly at most, but for those with dry or damaged hair, you can use the oil more frequently as a leave-in by rubbing a drop or two between the palms of your hands and running a hairbrush over your palm before brushing it through your hair. And finally, when you’re spending the day outdoors or swimming, apply the oil evenly through dry hair before you go outside.
No matter how you use it, you’ll always want to pour a few drops of the oil into your hands first to slightly warm it up before you apply it. One more thing worth noting, if you’re storing the oil somewhere cold, it could start to solidify, in which case all you need to do is run warm water over the bottle so that the oil will liquify again.
