6 Buzzy Beauty Brands You Need To Try This Year

by Angela Melero

We admit we’re creatures of habit. We’ve long grown accustomed to our day-to-day beauty routines and the tried-and-true products that keep the wheels on, so to speak. That said, hearing about all these up-and-coming beauty brands definitely piques our curiosity and has us open to broadening our beauty horizons. Check out the five breakout lines that are making us turn from our predictable ways.

Fresh Beauty

Bastide

Raise your hand if you're a fan of Frédéric Fekkai. Well then you're going to love Bastide. The brand itself is not new at all—it's 25 years old! However, it experienced a rebirth of sorts last year when hair mogul Frédéric and his wife Shirin von Wulffen acquired it. The lifestyle and body care line has since been rebranded with fresh new packaging and formulations. If Frédéric Fekkai is there, we're there.

The Ordinary

Okay, this brand technically made its big splash in 2017, but we're pretty sure it's going to reach astronomical heights this year. Why? Well, in addition to its insanely affordable price points and concentrated, well-studied ingredients, The Ordinary is now available at Sephora (online and in stores) and ASOS, creating quite the loyal following. If you haven't picked up one of its magical skincare potions, we recommend you do so ASAP (we're big fans of the Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3%, as it keeps our skin looking supple and radiant).

Love Beauty And Planet

We love a solid drugstore buy, but when you throw some good old sustainability into the mix, we're really sold. Available at affordable retailers like Target and Walgreens, Love Beauty and Planet is quickly becoming the beauty addiction you don't need to feel guilty about. The brand's product roster includes staples that run the gamut from hair oils and dry shampoo to body scrubs and showerless cleansing mists (whaaat?!). Oh, and the packaging is cuter than a Care Bear sitting on a cloud.

The Doux

The thing we appreciate most about The Doux is its no-nonsense/sassy approach to haircare. With products titled Sucka Free Moisturizing Shampoo, Mousse Def Texture Foam and Bonita Afro Balm, you know these formulas don't mess around. Also, the affordable price tag means you can stock up on the addictively fun items and not burn a hole in your wallet.

Lawless

What do you get when you cross a mega juice brand and a makeup line? Lawless! Yep, this natural cosmetics range—which launched late last year—was created by Annie Lawless, founder of not-so-little wellness company Suja. Similar to her healthy claim to fame, Lawless cosmetics take an earthy approach to beauty, keeping all products free of toxic ingredients.

Volition

Wanna call all the shots in your skincare formulations? Volition makes that happen. Created as an online collaboration platform, the brand basically allows its audience to determine the products it makes. After an idea is submitted and chosen, Volition's network of chemists go to work to bring it to fruition. And with an existing product line that includes Prismatic Luminizing Shield SPF 50, a Skincare Paintbrush and Turmeric Brightening Polish, you know there are no stones left unturned.
