For the coolest haircut trend of the year, imperfection is essential. Celebrity asymmetrical haircuts are ruling the red carpets with intentionally uneven ends, dramatic parts, and choppy bangs that add serious intrigue to even the most straightforward styles. Ahead, the best asymmetric inspo.

Though asymmetry lends itself well to nearly every cut out there, one of the easiest ways to transition into it is through a lob-bob hybrid. Half of Naomi Watt’s blonde hair is trimmed just below her ears, while the longer section dramatically swoops down to graze her collarbone.FilmMagic/FilmMagic, Inc/Getty Images
Behold, the single most talked-about beauty look of the entire 2023 Oscars ceremony — and Halle Berry wasn’t even an official nominee. The tight curls concentrated over one eye feels both retro-inspired and very fresh for the awards show, the most glamorous night of the year.Steve Granitz/FilmMagic/Getty Images
Kristen Stewart experimented with plenty of intentionally-uneven haircuts over the years, but her asymmetrical pixie cut might be the coolest. The sides of her hair are roughly the same length, but her choppy, tapered bangs — and how they’re matted against her cheekbone — create asymmetric angles.GP Images/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images
Leave it to Thandiwe Newton to exhibit one of the cooler, more extreme versions of an asymmetrical haircut. While half is a longer bob, the other half is legitimately long, flowing well past her shoulder and gently side-parted.Kevin Winter/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images
It doesn’t get much more Old Hollywood than Sandra Oh’s perfectly-shaped curls and their asymmetrical arrangement. The rounded, retro shape of the curls already feels so vintage, but gathering most of her hair on the same side as her part adds extra volume and drama.George Pimentel/WireImage/Getty Images
If you want to try out the asymmetrical trend without committing to an uneven haircut for several months, take a page from Lupita Nyong'o’s book. Rather than going for a real chop, her glossy twists are styled cascading over one side of the face, simulating the same asymmetric effect.Frederick M. Brown/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images
Kim Kardashian’s take on a longer asymmetric cut is unique in that no part of it clears her shoulders. She’s one of the few to try the trend without a bob (or a half-bob), instead allowing the shortest section to fall just below her collarbone. It’s a much subtler version of a classic uneven cut.Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images
Retro hairstyles and makeup choices are essential elements of Michelle William’s usual red carpet style, so of course she’s experimented with an asymmetrical bob. Notably, though, she kept the right side extremely close-cropped, but the glittering hair clip makes it look even sleeker and shorter.Steve Granitz/WireImage/Getty Images
Rihanna’s series of asymmetrical bobs, pixies, and pageboy cut ruled the 2010s, but her upswept pompadour at the Grammys really proves how versatile the cut can be. Even when blown back and rounded for volume, the asymmetry is clear, with the hair’s peak much higher on one side.Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic/Getty Images
Side-swept bangs add a sweet touch to Marion Cotillard’s asymmetrical bob, but they’re also the key to her entire hairstyle. Look closely and notice that the bangs are pulled from very deep to the side, with the disproportionate part creating the asymmetry altogether — no cut required.Alberto E.
