Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall Alta Moda show looked more like a scene out of a glittering fairytale than a designer collection preview. Prosecco wielding guests lounged in striped deck chairs, while Fellini-esque beauties glided up and down a makeshift runway. We were this close to writing the whole thing off as a fashion fever dream, had it not been for our man on the ground, Joey Maalouf’s, firsthand account of the festivities.

To kick off the evening's proceedings, the first crop of models made a dramatic entrance via boat to a soundtrack of Italian tenors.
Volume was the name of the game when it came to the floor-sweeping ballgowns. Starched skirts -- hand-painted with primary-colored stripes -- were offset by embellished corsets made of velvet.
The stripe motif continued through a showing of surprisingly wearable day dresses. Luminous skin and softly filled-in brows perfectly captured the La Dolce Vita theme of the collection.
According to Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, the only Capri-appropriate way to fully enjoy the sunset is with dainty parasol in hand.
Sequin and gilded thread adorned waist-defining silhouettes, with splashes of jewel-encrusted details throughout.
Off-the-shoulder shift dresses had a decidedly retro feel thanks to floral motifs and bell-sleeves. Sophia Loren-worthy cat-eye liner finished the sexy look.
And the drama didn't stop below the neck: ruby red lipstain (applied with fingertip to get the correct texture), defined eyes and statement jewelry drove the notion of Italian luxury home.
