Diamonds have long been known as symbols of love, commitment, and even good health and power. Behind each diamond jewelry piece is often a sentiment from the giver to the recipient, even when the recipient is also the giver (fact: self-purchase can have just as much meaning). It’s that connection between the piece and the wearer that is so special. A quick glance at your sparkling beauty can remind you of an occasion or emotion — but what we often don’t think about is the connection between the diamonds and the people and communities who mine and polish these incredible rarities.

Thankfully Ben Bridge Jeweler, a more-than-century-old personal and family-run jeweler, is shedding light on the importance of doing good to protect both the people and environment in every stage of the diamond supply chain. This spring, the brand hosted a trip to Botswana to delve into their ethics-first approach to mining with De Beers. Together, they are lifting up communities to provide a positive, lasting impact. TZR Fashion Market Director Jennifer Yee accompanied the brand on the excursion to Jwaneng Mine to experience all of this first-hand. “Jewelry can have such deep meaning in our lives,” says Yee. “But what I learned from the trip is just how much jewelry can connect various worlds that we should be conscious of. Where our possessions are sourced and how they are sourced is very important to know.”

A little history: Diamonds were first discovered in Botswana in 1967, creating a revenue source for the country's GDP. This work extends to the Ben Bridge Signature collection, which features their proprietary cut done exclusively in Botswana. “The connection between family, history and industry knowledge creates the quintessential experience for any customer seeking to purchase jewelry,” says Yee. “Ben Bridge Jeweler creates the most important bond between a retailer and consumer: trust.” And beyond trust, each piece in this collaboration features Signature Diamonds that are meticulously hand-selected and include extra facets to up the brilliance factor (hello, sparkle).
