We Used To Hate This ’90s Dress Trend But Now We Love It

by Laura Lajiness Kaupke

The slip dress may be the biggest dress revival to come out of the ’90s (for good reason, as it’s incredibly versatile and super-easy to wear), but another style from the earlier part of the decade is having a moment: button-front dresses. You know what we’re talking about. You probably wore one in a family photo or teamed one with combat boots during your grunge phase. It was likely a floral print, and you may or may not cringe at the sight of it now. Same. But new versions of the dress are flooding the market, making us see the once-outdated style with fresh, enthusiastic eyes. Cut in a range of silhouettes that include flippy minis and maxi lengths to precious sleeves and simple tank straps, the only really nostalgic part of this look is the button detailing. Go ahead and throw it on with a fuss-free sandal and cute straw bag and you’ll be ready to roll (just don’t pair it with Dr. Martens and a straw hat à la Blossom).
