This Unexpected Fashion Pairing Is Blowing Up

by Nicole Kliest

It seems each street style cycle has its pick of shiny pennies. The Vetements deconstructed jeans, Cult Gaia’s arc bag, the off-the-shoulder Balenciaga denim jacket, Gucci’s backless loafers—you get the idea. But on the subject of styling tricks, it can be tough to nail down what trends are worthy of praise, which brings us to the topic of today’s style report. After spending countless hours devouring inspiring looks from fashion week street style we noticed that throughout the last several seasons one simplistic pairing has remained consistently on-point: skirts and sneakers. It totally makes sense! The athletic appeal of sneakers balances out the feminine aesthetic of a skirt’s silhouette, thus producing a balanced, slightly unexpected pairing. To prove our point we culled a few of our recent favorite outfits and followed up them up with some shoppable pieces so you can make the look your own.
