5 Things You Can Do To Instantly Relieve Stress

by Megan Gustashaw

Ever feel like it takes a full 24 hours to wind down after a busy work week? Let’s face it: The weekends are too short to spend that much time getting into chill-mode. To take the edge off just a little bit more quickly we asked yoga instructor Jessie Groveman and natural foods chef Tara Sowlaty, founders of the LA-based wellness website How You Glow, for some easy ways to shake off stress throughout the day. Practice these calming habits and be ready to start the weekend as soon as work lets out on Friday afternoon.

7AM: Put Your Thoughts Down On Paper

"Practice uncensored writing first thing in the morning to clear your head and create a blank slate for the day."

10AM: Take A 5-Minute Meditation Break

"Five minutes of sitting quietly and breathing in the morning can set the tone for a more peaceful day. As you breathe in, imagine light traveling from the root of your spine, up through the crown of your head. As you exhale, visualize that light travel back down from the crown of the head back to the root. This will create a clear channel of energy."

12PM: Eat A Healthful Lunch

"If you bring your lunch to work find recipes that utilize stress-reducing, grounding foods such as sweet potatoes, beets, yogurt, bananas and turmeric."

2PM: Reset With Aromatherapy

"Bring essential oils with you in your purse for on the go stress release. Lavender is our favorite go-to for calming vibes. Put a few drops on the palms of your hands and on your temples. Take a few deep breaths and observe how you feel."

7PM: Soak The Day Off

"Take a hot bath with Epsom salt and lavender for muscle relaxation and ultimate bliss."
