12 Simple And Elegant Black Nail Polish Alternatives

Falling into a black nail polish-only routine is far too simple, especially when your beauty choices are as uninspired as your sartorial ones when the weather is less than favorable. After all, black does match everything, and if you're a New Yorker like me, it's practically all you own. And if muted tones are your thing all year-round, there are still plenty of black nail polish alternatives that get the point across without becoming too mundane.

“In my experience with most girls that wear black, it’s kind of their go-to color," celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik, whose clients include Victoria Beckham, Gwen Stefani, and Jennifer Lopez, tells The Zoe Report. "So deviating too far from that can be a bit of a shock. In these cases, I like to recommend deep rich jewel tones that at first glance appear black, but on closer inspection reveal their true colors.” he states.

Kimmie Kyees, a celebrity manicurist who includes Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Chrissy Teigen, and the Kardashians as clients, has the same approach. “Deep navy blues,” she recommends. “Super Nail has a gorgeous shimmery blue called Baltic, or Light Elegance has a great dark navy called Geek Chic. Dark greens are also nice!”

Don't think that you have to wait until spring to pull out all of your bright shades, though. “2019 nail trends will cover both sides of the spectrum," Bachik predicts. "Nude polish, as seen at the 2019 Golden Globes, will be the everyday must have with a hint of a French manicure hitting the scene. But plan on bright shades like neons making a statement for the spring and summer, and a resurgence of shimmers and glittery sparkle."

Ahead, see the chocolate tones, deep blues, dark greens, and metallic polishes that celeb manicurists give their clients when they need a break from black.
