Ashley Graham’s Incredible Oscars Hairstyle Was Created Entirely With Drugstore Products
Leave it to the Oscars to serve up elegant, avant-garde updates to your favorite everyday hairstyles. From intricate braids to blunt bobs, Hollywood's biggest night consistently delivers hair trends galore, many of which are easier to recreate than you might think. In terms of accessories, bows have been having a major moment, but Ashley Graham's 2019 Oscars hairstyle demonstrated a brand new way to rock the delicate trend.
The model already looked amazing in her sleek Zac Posen gown and Martin Katz jewels, but her experimental take on a sleek ballerina bun took things up a notch, proving how a little creativity in the beauty department can set a whole look apart.
Celebrity hairstylist Justine Marjan has an affinity for accessories, and her Instagram serves as a mood board for how to get the most out of the hair clip trend. Whether she's using oversized snap clips, embellished bows, or loads of bobby pins, Marjan works magic with a more-is-more mentality. For Graham, the abundance of bows added an edgy but femme touch to the otherwise classic hairstyle.
Dripping in diamonds, Graham looked like a million bucks, but the styling products used to achieve the sleek hairstyle fall under the five dollar mark. That's right — Marjan revealed in a press release that the entire product lineup hails from drugstore brand TRESemmé.
After prepping the model's damp hair with a blow dry balm, Marjan combed Graham's hair into a middle part. She then gave the model a sleek blowout, polishing off her ends with a Ghd flatiron for an ultra-smooth finish.
To ensure the style stayed put all night, Marjan applied a hold gel to Graham's roots before brushing her hair back, twisting it into a bun, and securing with an elastic tie, pins, and a hairnet. Last, Marjan sprayed the style for extra hold, finishing it all off with small velvet bows by Jennifer Behr.
Even though the model's next-level look was fit for the red carpet, it can easily be dressed down for a chic night out. Offset the elegant updo with denim and pumps, or go full-on glam for your next formal occasion. However you twist it, this experimental, updated bun is sure to turn heads.
