Bella Hadid Just Gave Another ‘90s Trend Her Stamp Of Approval & You’ll Want To Copy Her Look, Stat
There’s no denying that the fashion world looks to the past for its inspiration. Whether it’s the bohemian-inspired western styles of the ‘60s and ‘70s or the electro-clash movement that led the ‘80s, each decade has a handful of trends that designers reinvent for today’s looks. You’ve probably already noticed, but the ‘90s have taken over the current fashion landscape like no other era. And just in case you weren’t already convinced that styles from the decade here to stay, Bella Hadid’s knee-high socks will give you another reason to take deep dive into the '90's iconic trends.
Of all the trends that could have re-emerged from the era of classic slip dresses, matte lips, and urban grunge, knee-high socks may be the most unexpected. However, when fashion girls like Hadid are sporting a trend — whether it’s from this decade or not — you know it’s one that’s about to be everywhere, and worth trying on your own.
As an It girl and fashion model whose personal style is always on top of the trends, Hadid — with the help of her stylist, Mimi Cuttrell — knows how to let simple trends carry a major impact. The model was spotted on Oct. 9 outside of Sadelle's in SoHo, New York, where she celebrated her 23rd birthday with friends and family.
Hadid took on the sheer trend with black knee-high socks, which complemented an all-black ensemble featuring a turtleneck top with a matching jacket and skirt from 1017 ALYX 9SM. For an outfit reminiscent of The Matrix, she accessorized with thin black sunglasses, a sleek black handbag, lug-sole shoes, and classic gold hoop earrings. While the combat-style shoes may give her look a touch of grunge, Hadid’s sheer knee-high socks give this edgy look a prep school touch with a subtle nod to ‘90s pop culture icon Cher Horowitz.
Of course, this isn’t the first time that Hadid has donned a ‘90s trend (and from the looks of it, it won’t be the last). Earlier this year, the style icon was seen in a pair of Dickies Girl pants with a racerback crop top. And just a few weeks ago, she wore a pair of black thong sandals, proving that the controversial trend is one worth investing in while it’s still warm enough.
Without a doubt, Hadid’s '90s-inspired style — knee-high socks and all — continues to prove that she’s a child of the decade through and through. And if you’re feeling inspired to sport the old-school trend this fall, scroll down to shop for your own pair below.
