Blake Lively’s Engagement Ring Was So Expensive — & It’s Easy To See Why
It's no secret that Blake Lively has built up an impressive jewelry collection over the years, as evident by her A Simple Favor press tour. Throughout the month of Aug., a suit-clad Lively donned an array of glitzy, can't-miss cocktail rings, earrings, necklaces, and brooches by Lorraine Schwartz that were estimated to be worth over $6.5 million total. And while each piece was incredibly stunning and unique, it was ultimately Blake Lively's engagement ring, also designed by Schwartz, that received the most attention.
Lively's ring is still as breathtaking today as it was when Ryan Reynolds popped the question in 2012 — and she's rarely ever spotted without it perched on her finger. "Often worn with an ultra-delicate pavé diamond wedding band, Blake’s show-stopping ring features an estimated 12-carat oval-cut diamond in a diamond-accented, rose-gold setting," Kathryn Money, vice president of strategy and merchandising at Brilliant Earth, shares with The Zoe Report over email.
The actor's ring is certainly amongst the biggest of celebrity sparklers — it is 12-carats after all — but its design still manages to strike the perfect balance between elegance and simplicity. That's namely due to the delicate, pavé-lined band.
As for the ring's value? Money estimates a cool $2 million, "assuming the high quality and rare characteristics of the center diamond."
It goes without saying that engagement rings hold a lot of sentimental value. And for Lively, the sparkler Reynolds surprised her with is her most treasured possession, in large part because of the touching story behind its design.
"My most treasured possession is my engagement ring made by my dear friend Lorraine Schwartz because of the love and meaning it symbolizes," she shared with British Vogue back in 2015, adding, "No, I didn’t have any hand in its design — I married a gentleman."
Lively and Reynold officially tied the knot on Sept. 9, 2012 in a small, intimate ceremony. And while many of the details of their special day were kept under tight wraps (the couple is known for keeping their private lives, well, private), they did share a few important elements with Martha Stewart Weddings. "Blake's cloud-like silk tulle gown by Marchesa featured a fitted bodice, illusion crystal beading on the shoulders, and rose-gold embroidery," the magazine reported.
Lively's ring feels as relevant as ever today, as it touches on several popular engagement ring trends, including fancy-cut diamonds (especially oval-shaped diamonds), rose-gold settings, and the stacking of delicate bands, Money says, noting that Hailey Baldwin and Julianne Hough have opted for similar styles.
