This Chic Hair Clip Took Emily Blunt’s SAG Awards Look To The Next Level
Talk about the perfect chignon: Emily Blunt's crystal barrette from the 2019 SAG Awards is the accessory you didn't know your twisted updo was missing. The A Quiet Place actor was the epitome of elegance on the red carpet on Sun. evening. And though her floor-sweeping, crystal-embroidered Michael Kors gown and glitzy earrings were front and center at the star-studded event, the back of her look certainly deserves its time in the spotlight, too.
Blunt is a red carpet veteran who has rocked just about every hairstyle in the book, from the polished and refined to the more effortlessly undone. So, how does her stylist Laini Reeves decide what to do with the actor's hair? She looks toward the actor's gown, of course.
At the 2019 Golden Globes, for example, Reeves created a textured, Dutch-braid updo that perfectly replicated the intricate detailing of Blunt's Alexander McQueen dress. And for Sun.'s SAG Awards, she drew inspiration from the nominee's custom gown, yet again, creating the perfect slicked-back chignon thanks to one particular accessory: a Swarovski-crystal embellished X-shaped hair clip.
"Emily wore this beautiful Michael Kors custom gown for the SAG awards," Reeves wrote on her Instagram. "The dress is so graphic in design that I wanted the hair to complement the dress by keeping the hair looking really sleek and shiny."
In addition to speaking to the updo's inspiration, Reeves also offered up a step-by-step guide on how to emulate Blunt's look. The key? A handful of shine-infusing and smoothing products and, of course, a crystal barrette.
Though there are many takeaways from Blunt's 2019 SAG Awards look (namely, pink is having a major moment, chic shoes don't have to cost a pretty penny, and coordinating your pout with your gown is a makeup game-changer), there's one beauty hack that simply can't be beat: a good hair clip is perhaps the easiest way to elevate an updo.
