EmRata Made Bike Shorts Look So Chic (Again) — Here’s How
Nine months and counting, bike shorts are still as popular as when they first made their street-style and runway debut last year. Though the sporty bottoms are being widely-embraced now, that certainly doesn't mean they no longer rank as one of 2019's most polarizing fashion items. People certainly have opinions about the spin-class essential, but that hasn't stopped the fashion set from wearing them practically nonstop. The latest notable name to step out in bike shorts? Emily Ratajkowski, who paired hers with a blazer for a recent event outing.
EmRata is a fearless tastemaker who isn't afraid to wear one conversation-starting piece after the other. She's tried out the dress-over-pants look more than a handful of times, is an avid fan of the chunky sneaker trend, and clearly favors cycling shorts over denim cutoffs — well, at least for summer 2019.
On July 9, the model stepped out for TheWrap's Power Women breakfast, held at Tribeca Grill in New York City. The event aims to bring together influential women in entertainment, media, technology, and finance to network and connect, as well as provides attendees the opportunity to listen to inspiring speakers, per TheWrap's website.
Ratajkowski looked the epitome of business-chic for the Tues. morning outing, sporting knee-length leggings by Khaite that she instantly dressed up with the addition of a few elevated wardrobe staples. In typical EmRata fashion, she forwent a traditional workwear shirt, opting instead for a bra-like top that slightly peeked through from underneath her oversized, tan blazer by The Row.
EmRata slipped into black high-heeled Giuseppe Zanotti mules, topping off the getup with a small black handbag, gold hoop earrings, a neutral makeup look, and a simple, nonchalant updo with a few face-framing strands.
The main takeaway from the model's outfit is this: Bike shorts can, in fact, be worn to a more formal outing — all you need to do is offset the sporty piece with a more refined item, which was, in EmRata's case, a sharp-shouldered blazer.
Prepare to see a lot more of the bike shorts-and-blazer combo in the coming months. It's perfect for a busy day of back-to-back meetings, but can just as easily be worn for a night out on the town, too.
