As summer (sadly) comes to an end, it is now time to begin stocking up on a few autumn essentials. Not sure where to even begin? For starters, take a page from Emily Ratajkowski's street style book, which includes a black maxi dress and velvet clutch. Not only is her outfit super easy to achieve on your own, but it also combines two of the most versatile pieces you can own in one perfect look.

Ratajkowski was photographed out in New York City on August 19 in the effortless ensemble that's ideal for transitional weather. She swapped out the mini dress style that she's been loving all summer long in favor of a longer, darker version. Her dress featured an on-trend square neckline and a dainty white polka-dot print. The model and designer styled her piece with a pair of white Veja sneakers and oval-shaped black sunglasses from the recent collaboration between Oliver Peoples and The Row.

She finished off her look with a maroon velvet clutch bag, also designed by The Row. When it came to her jewelry, she chose to wear coordinating gold pieces. Layered gold pendant necklaces — including one that featured an 'S' pendant for her husband Sebastian, no doubt — and a pair of hoop earrings finished off her ensemble.

To emulate Ratajkowski's look on your own, search for longer black dresses in simple, sleek shapes. Brands like LPA make the perfect button-front sweater dress, while Z Supply takes a more relaxed approach with a simple tank-top version. To make the summery pieces more appropriate for lower temperatures, consider styling your dresses over t-shirts, thin long-sleeve shirts, or turtlenecks. Also, layer them under oversized blazers or chunky cardigans to add warmth. Plus, a longer skirt means that your pick will be perfect to wear around the office, too.

When it comes to her purse, however, the model opted to go for something more luxe. She proved that a small pop of color can add some life to even the simplest looks. Her exact pick isn't on the market yet, but The Row makes a satin version in the same shade of red, as well as velvet versions in both yellow and black.

While EmRata went for a jewel tone shade, brands like Nanushka have a blush-colored pick that can double as an everyday bag. If you're not ready to take the plunge on the luxury item, Hayward makes a more affordable option, while ASOS DESIGN has a deep green alternative that retails for under $100.
