Season nine of American Horror Story wrapped up on Nov. 13, which signals a final and definite end to all things dark and spooky (until next Halloween, that is). And while others may be ushering in the holidays with Hallmark movies, seasonal coffees, a sparkly manicure, and so on, Emma Roberts' new honey-blonde hair seems to be her method of brightening up after a moody fall.

Roberts had been rocking shoulder-length smooth chocolate brown locks since the filming and release of AHS 1984 — until she decided to change her hair for an altogether unexpected winter look. The actress stopped by Los Angeles salon Nine Zero One the week of her show's finale and worked with hairstylist Nikki Lee (who has treated the tresses of fellow blonde celebs Kate Hudson and Hilary Duff) to create the new color that's light, bright, and decidedly warm.

"Emma is proving that not everything is going to be icy this winter. Instead we’re keeping things warm," Lee said in a statement released by Nine Zero One's public relations team. "Since we knew we wanted to go long with her hair we wanted to make sure the blonde wasn’t platinum-looking. Keeping it in this honey tone gives us a more natural and classic vibe for this holiday season."

Since Roberts was going from her rich brown hue, Lee first needed to lift her locks from the deeper tone to a blonde shade with Joico's Color Intensity Eraser and then used the brand's Blonde Life Powder Lightener for highlights (working with 20 Volume and 30 Volume LumiShine Developer to lighten). LumiShine Demi-Permanent Liquid 9NV and 8N brought the warm, dimensional honey blonde to the actress' locks, and an all-over toner locked in the shade and tons of shine.

Then, Robert's freshly dyed strands were matched with some extensions from Great Lengths, giving her new 'do additional length and volume — Lee brought in Seama Eftekhari to apply the extensions.

According to Lee's Instagram post, the entire transformation took a total of eight hours, but for a completely new look that'll help Roberts stand out this season it seems well worth it. "After shooting AHS with short dark hair this was the perfect switch to add brightness and sunshine in her life!" Lee said.
