How To Mix Patterns The Priyanka Chopra Way

Plaid pieces continue to make their mark on the celebrity street-style scene. Everyone from Sienna Miller to Laura Harrier has taken variations of the pattern out for a spin recently — and while both actors opted for just a single hero piece, Priyanka Chopra's latest look proves more is more when it comes to checks. Looking for a lesson on how to mix patterns this season? Look no further than Chopra's most recent New York City outing.

In just a few short years, Chopra has cemented herself as a style star to watch. The actor, with the help of celeb stylist, Mimi Cuttrell — whose impressive client roster includes the Hadid sisters and Victoria's Secret Angel, Sara Sampaio — has become the ultimate of source of dressing inspiration for anyone who appreciates a good, classic look, but with a slight twist. Take, for example, the actor's Sat. getup.

On April 6, Chopra was photographed out and about in Tribeca in a pair of tailored teal trousers (complete with a chain belt — the accessory-of-the-moment that offers up one of the easiest ways to channel the '90s.) She opted for double plaid up top, in the form of a blue checkered button-down and a subtly matching trench coat with all-over leather trim.

Chopra's classic but still trend-forward street-style ensemble serves up an important lesson in pattern mixing. Rather than opting for two entirely different motifs — fusing colorful florals with black-and-white stripes, for example — she chose to step outside of the box and combine two pieces within the same print family. Her button-down and trench complement each other without appearing too matchy-matchy (the key to tackling the plaid-on-plaid trend with ease).

The actor's off-duty look was courtesy of Coach. In fact, her exact ensemble made its debut in the brand's Fall/Winter 2019 runway show — but there were a few subtle styling differences between the two. Rather than grounding the three-piece combo with loafers (as was the case in Coach's show), Chopra opted for black ankle boots.

Step up your outfit game this season by channeling Chopra's plaid-on-plaid look. Opt for checked pieces in the same color or in complementary hues, like baby blue with yellow or red with green. Ahead, The Zoe Report handpicked the best plaid pairings to wear this season.
