EmRata’s About To Convince You To Wear A Dress With Pants (& It’s So Easy)
The new season is here, and with it comes an fresh set of outfit formulas. But even though the autumn temperatures typically call for pieces designed in slightly heavier and, quite frankly, cozier fabrics, there are still a few warm-weather essentials to keep in rotation. Case in point: Emily Ratajkowski's latest ensemble, which perfectly demonstrates how to wear a dress with pants this fall. It's a pairing that's easier to pull of than you may think. What's more, it's one of the most fail-proof ways to make the summery staple work during the cold-weather months.
The model was photographed in New York City on Oct. 16 while on her way to the Moët x Virgil launch party. For the occasion, she opted for an outfit combo that has been especially on the rise as of late: a dress over pants.
Ratajkowski donned a black dress plucked straight from Monse's Spring 2019 New York Fashion Week show. The silky piece features an asymmetrical hemline, rope detailing, and an open back. Rather than wearing it on its own (or with tights), she styled it over a pair of tailored white trousers — a slightly unexpected, but nonetheless fashion-forward combo that's worth trying out yourself. She finished off the look with Stuart Weitzman Black Nudistsong Ankle Strap Sandals, pulling the outfit together with a mini box bag by Carolina Santo Domingo.
Ratajkowski's dress-over-pants look is one you can wear for just about every occasion. If you're looking for a way to liven up your workwear uniform, opt for a dress that's a bit more formal and style it over trousers. For an easy daytime look (or a nighttime one), your choices are bit more wide-ranging. Start with a velvet number rendered in a rich, autumn hue. Add in dark-wash skinny jeans and printed boots for a look that's equal parts cool and comfortable.
This season, don't pack away your favorite summertime dress just yet, because the easiest (and now celeb-approved) way to work it into your autumn uniform is to pair it with pants.
